Tyler Matthews Wins Pole Position for Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National

Tyler Matthews claimed the pole during qualifying on Saturday for the 24th Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Motorsports Park.

Matthews, from Richlands, North Carolina, circled the 4/10-mile facility in 15.352 seconds during the single-car time trial session ahead of Sunday's 250-lap Late Model Stock Car feature. Matthews narrowly edged out Jake Bollman for pole position by 0.008 seconds, with Bollman clocking in at 15.360 seconds.

Clay Jones clocked in third fastest, followed by Doug Barnes, Jr. and Mason Bailey to complete the top five. Conner Weddell, Bradley McCaskill, Tristan McKee, Andrew Grady and Lanie Buice rounded out the top 10.

Several big names in the field qualified outside the top 10. Former Hickory Motor Speedway track champion Kade Brown qualified 12th. Brenden Queen, last year's winner of the Thanksgiving Classic, will start 18th, with 2013 Thanksgiving Classic winner Ronnie Bassett, Jr. starting 21st.

Jamey Caudill, a two-time Thanksgiving Classic winner and four-time track champion at Southern National, qualified 24th out of 27 cars.

A full program of feature racing awaits on Saturday evening at Southern National, headlined by the 75-lap Charger feature. The green flag waves at 5 p.m. ET.

The Late Model Stock Cars race on Sunday afternoon, alongside Limited Late Models and the Southern Ground Pounders. Feature racing is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. ET on Sunday.
