NOTE: This story has been updated to reflect that Trey Craig has been named the winner of the Rackley Roofing Battle of Broadway 150 following post-race technical inspection.
Trey Craig has been named the winner of the Rackley Roofing Battle of Broadway 150 for the second straight year.
Craig crossed the finish line second behind Josh Berry in the event co-sanctioned by the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour and Nashville's Pro Late Model division. However, Berry was disqualified in post-race technical inspection due to a left-side weight violation, turning the victory over to Craig officially.
"Sometimes things don’t go your way, and last night was one of them," read a Fat Head Racing statement on Friday morning. "The team put together a bad fast car and our driver showed up. After starting 5th, we took the lead on lap 82 and didn’t look back, winning the ‘Battle of Broadway 150’ by 2.651 over second place. After being tore down in tech, our night ended with our FHR team being disqualified for 0.01 left side weight."
The winner of the inaugural edition of the event one year ago, Craig bided his time until a lap 105 caution for an incident involving Aidan Potter and Stacey Crain. This yellow flag brought the field down to pit road to take on their two allotted tires for the late-race dash to the finish.
Craig had raced around the top five for most of the evening, but charged to second with the fresh tires. He was unable to chase down Berry in the closing laps, but had been content to finish runner-up to the NASCAR Cup Series campaigner.
"It was hard to catch him up," said Craig after the race. "You know, we had to pass those four or five cars there. He was on rails, you know? He gets paid big money to do this stuff. He's a hell of a wheelman, so he's a tough one to catch. You know, finishing second to a Cup Series driver's not too bad."
With the disqualification, Hunter Wright is promoted to second place in the official results, with Dawson Sutton rounding out the podium. Sutton will be racing Friday night in Nashville as well, as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series hits the track at Nashville Superspeedway for the Rackley Roofing 200.
Sutton started on the pole for the 150-lap race before losing the top spot to Berry on lap 82.
"I really couldn't ask for much more," said Sutton. "I just really had some problems there with 75, 50 laps to go. Lost the lead and never really was able to catch up after that. We'll move on to the next one."
Isaac Kitzmiller finished fourth, with Dustin Smith rounding out the top five.
