Once upon a time, a staple of the winter months in racing was the Copper World Classic at what was then known as Phoenix International Raceway. In today's Throwback Thursday, we look at that event, Florida in February and the SRL Winter Showdown.

1991 - Junior Hanley goes to victory lane after starting 11th at the Copper World Classic at Phoenix Raceway (AZ). Hanley beat out Rick Carelli and Ken Schrader for the win. It was also the second-straight win for Hanley in the event.

THE THIRD TURN: 1991 Copper World Classic (Late Models)

1991 - Also at the Copper World Classic in 1991 we saw a young Jeff Gordon top a field of 30 USAC Silver Crown cars. Gordon came from third to lead 16 laps in the 50 scheduled distance. Gordon beat Eric Gordon, no relation for the win. Wally Pankratz was third. Jimmy Sills started on the pole and led 34 laps before an engine went sour.

THE THIRD TURN: 1991 Copper World Classic (Silver Crown)

2010 - Craig Dollansky wins the O’Reilly All Star Circuit of Champions event at Volusia County Speedway Park (FL). Dollansky beat out Joey Sadana, Donny Schatz, Steve Kinser and Stevie Smith. It was a great way to start the season for Dollansky who has five career wins at Volusia. He had two in the same week in 2012.

THE THIRD TURN: 2010 All Star Circuit of Champions at Volusia

2018 - Kyle Busch dominates the SRL Winter Showdown at Kern County Raceway (CA). Busch started fourth and worked his way forward. Busch beat out Buddy Shepherd, Daniel Hemric, Ty Majeski and Noah Gragson. This was a redemption victory for Busch, who finished third in 2017 in the same event.
