Matt Craig Snaps Southern Super Series Drought in Rumble by the River 125
Apr 14, 2024
Stephen Nasse outdueled Bubba Pollard for the Show Me The Money Series win at Montgomery Motor Speedway Saturday night, continuing a strong run in Pro Late Model competition in 2024.
It isn't surprising that Stephen Nasse and Bubba Pollard battled for a win at Montgomery. However, the fact that it came in the Pro Late Model might have been a shock.
Saturday was just Nasse's second appearance in the Pro Late Model track championship at Montgomery, and his first since the 2022 Alabama 200.
Meanwhile, Pollard wasn't even on the entry list for the race. Instead, he was tabbed on race day as a substitute driver for Jim Wall, who was under the weather and unable to compete.
Pollard set fast time in qualifying, and lined up fourth with Nasse fifth in the starting lineup following the pre-race redraw. Nasse got to the lead first, taking the top spot on lap 50. However, Pollard claimed the lead just a few laps later.
Nasse reclaimed the lead on lap 68 after an extended battle on a restart and distanced himself from Pollard and the rest of the field for the win. The victory, alongside a win in the SpeedFest Pro Late Model feature and a runner-up in the Baby Rattler 125, continues a strong run of form in the Pro Late Model for Nasse.
"This is pretty awesome," said Nasse in victory lane. "Everybody's working so hard, and it wasn't easy right there. I thought that Bubba had me, he got me on that restart pretty good. Luckily, I was able to return the favor there and got by him again. It was good, hard racing. I'm sure the fans enjoyed it. I had a lot of fun out there."
It may have been unorthodox to see Pollard parked in a No. 91 on the frontstretch, but he enjoyed his chance to drive the Jim Wall Racing entry and enjoy a battle for the win in a Pro Late Model.
"We had a good time. I can't thank these guys enough for letting me jump into this thing," said Pollard. "It was a last-minute deal. We had fun, that's what it's all about. I hadn't driven a Pro car in a while.
"It's got a good setup. It's a good race car. My job's easy. I just jump in it, do what I'm supposed to do and go as fast as I can."
John Bolen finished third, followed by Jake Finch and Zack Dixon. Unofficially, Finch leads the Show Me The Money points after two races, with a runner-up finish in the Alabama 200.
The race was also the first event in the Rogers-Dabbs Performance Challenge. Montgomery, along with Five Flags Speedway, Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway and Mobile International Speedway, have partnered for the challenge series, with a separate points fund alongside those venues' Pro Late Model track championships.
The next Show Me The Money Series event is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, with the Disturbing the Peace 100 on Memorial Day weekend.
