Spencer Davis capped off his championship run in the David Rogers Super Late Model division at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing by winning the division's finale on Thursday night at New Smyrna Speedway.

Davis took the lead on the opening lap of the 35-lap sprint and maintained the lead the rest of the way for the victory. Entering the night as the points leader, Thursday's race was exactly what Davis needed to secure the World Series title.

"This GMS Race Cars, SEI Elevators, Surf USA Mobile machine was as fast as Surf USA 5G, man," said Davis in victory lane. "We grabbed the lead early there from Kyle Benjamin, led all 35. It was awesome. This thing was on rails."

While Thursday's race was picture-perfect, the day started on a concerning note for Davis and his team. With a little help from Donnie Wilson - coincidentally, the team owner for Jade Avedisian, Davis' closest championship competitor - Davis was still able to answer the call for Thursday's race.

"We had a little bit of issues today," Davis explained. "I'd like to thank Wilson Motorsports for lending us some motor belts. We had a big issue, actually. We didn't even know if we were going to race tonight. Just showed up, qualified, again, thanks to Donnie Wilson for those belts."

Davis now has eight career wins in the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing, including three in the Super Late Model division. The Georgia driver won the Pro Late Model championship in 2014, and now holds the Super Late Model title as well.

"This is phenomenal. Speedweeks champion. Now we've got a Pro Late Model championship and a Super Late Model championship, so it's just phenomenal."

Originally, Davis wasn't even planning to pursue the World Series title. Initial plans called for Davis to step aside following the Clyde Hart Memorial for the Appalachian Sucker Punch ASA STARS National Tour on Tuesday. This would allow him and the NEXUS Racing team to focus on their Pro Late Model, fielded by Gabriel Casagrande.

However, Davis held the points lead following Tuesday's race, and the team opted to stay in the championship hunt.

"We were leading the points by 12 after the ASA race. It just came to fruition. We're like, look, it's only two more sets of tires. Talked with Jimmy [Kitchens], talked with Ben [Kennedy], and we were like dude, we can make it happen.

"We'll make sure the Pro [Late Model] car is still primary. We got Gabriel [Casagrande] two fantastic runs. It sucks we didn't get a win for him here, but phenomenal, man. He's going to do a lot in his career. It's because of them two guys and the Surf USA guys, SCI Elevators that we ran these last two nights.

"We had five guys down here working on two cars. On Thursday, we had four cars out here, testing our backups and all. We're all tired, but it pays off. We got the trophy, right?"

Max Reaves finished second in Thursday's race, followed by Anthony Bello, Kyle Benjamin and George Phillips.
