Champions will be crowned during the Alabama State Championships this Saturday at Montgomery Motor Speedway. This included the Show Me The Money Series, where the top three are separated by just 20 points.
Defending Show Me The Money Series champion Christopher Tullis carries just a four-point edge over two-time Snowball Derby champion Augie Grill going into Saturday night’s finale. The Georgia driver started off the year by winning the Alabama 200, while also winning one of the Twin 50’s held on June 26.
Meanwhile, Grill has yet to finish any worse than sixth in any of the six races held to date. While he searches for his first win of the season, he is also looking for his second title with the series.
Recently-crowned Southern Super Series and Blizzard Series champion Jake Garcia is still within striking distance of the Show Me The Money crown, just 20 points back from Tullis. He’s a two-time winner at Montgomery this year, but an early exit during the Alabama 200 has him facing an uphill climb ahead of Saturday.
“We’ve got beautiful weather coming in, it’s looking like there’s going to be a big car count. We’re just really excited about it to finish up the year,” said Montgomery Motor Speedway Promoter Stan Narrison. “We’ve got a tight points battle going on with Christopher Tullis and Augie Grill, I’m sure that’ll be a battle to the finish.”
While the 2021 season is winding down in the Alabama state capitol, the 2022 season is already fast approaching. Narrison says to expect next year’s schedule at the half-mile to be released here soon.
“We’re already having discussions about schedules. Most of us guys down in the Southeast, we try to talk our schedules through so we don’t put big events on top of each other. We’re just about ready to release our schedule. Between projects that have to happen at the track, rules meetings, everything that goes into it, people ask if I go to the beach or hang out in the office during the offseason but there’s enough work to keep us all going.
It's been a repeat of 2020 for the most part, with one exception. Tullis and Garcia have combined to win all but one race so far in 2021. Jett Noland was the winner of the most recent Show Me The Money race after passing Jake Garcia in turns three and four coming to the checkered.
Along with the Pro Late Models, the Modifieds of Mayhem, Street Stocks and Late Model Sportsman will also be on the card. Street Stocks and Sportsman champions will be crowned, while the Modifieds of Mayhem finale will once again be held at Five Flags Speedway during Snowball Derby weekend.
