Renfrew, Clark Win Spencer Group Paving PASS 400 Heats as PASS Title Fight Tightens

Before Sunday's Spencer Group Paving PASS 400, a pair of 40-lap heat races on Saturday set the lineups for PASS Super Late Models preparing for 400 laps of action at Oxford Plains Speedway.

In the first heat race of the afternoon, Jimmy Renfrew, Jr. assumed the lead at the halfway mark from Colby Benjamin. He'd finish ahead of D.J. Shaw by 1.111 seconds to score the heat race victory. Shaw's second-place finish earned him four points in an incredibly tight PASS North championship battle going into Sunday's race.

Joey Doiron finished third, with Mike Hopkins and Benjamin rounding out the top five.

Brandon Varney surged to the lead on the 16th lap of the second heat with a bold three-wide maneuver. However, Johnny Clark chased down Varney, sights set on heat race points of his own in the championship battle with Shaw.

Clark took the lead with 12 laps to go, earning five points and gaining another point in his title fight. Shaw entered the weekend with a nine-point advantage, which has now been whittled down to four points between Saturday's heat races and Friday's Kennebec Equipment Rental 150, won by Austin Teras.

Varney finished second, followed by Trevor Sanborn, Alexendre Tardif and Cole Robie. Teras finished sixth following his win on Friday.

The PASS Super Late Models will race on Sunday in the unique PASS 400. The three-segment race pays $25,000 to win with the lowest cumulative score across all three segments, while each segment also pays $25,000 to the segment winner. Thus, a driver could win $100,000 on Sunday by sweeping all three segments.
