Due to persistent rainfall and an inability to dry the track in a timely fashion afterwards, New Smyrna Speedway officials cancelled the first night of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing after concluding one feature race.

Derek Griffith won the 35-lap Sportsman feature, but rain began to fall as victory lane festivities took place. The rain persisted and intensified, and track officials made multiple attempts to dry the track to no avail.

All tickets from Friday night will be honored for general admission on any other night of this year’s World Series. Saturday’s (2/11) NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 200 and next Friday’s (2/17) Richie Evans 100 will be a $10 upcharge. Reserved seats for tonight will become general admission seats on the night of choice for fans.
