Frankie Martin, a longtime regular competitor in the Alabama short track world, passed away over the weekend at the age of 70.

Martin was a staple of short track racing in the area for decades, competing regularly in Late Model and Open-Wheel Modified competition. Martin had previously been inducted into the Sayre Speedway Hall of Fame as well as the Alabama Auto Racing Pioneers Hall of Fame prior to his passing.

Martin could almost always be found at a local short track on Saturday evenings, whether it was a weekly show at Sayre Speedway, a Modifieds of Mayhem Tour event, or anything in-between. Martin’s decades of dedication to the sport cemented a legacy of greatness not just in the Birmingham area, but across the state and beyond.

Montgomery Motor Speedway mourns Martin’s passing and sends condolences to his family and friends.
