Mike Rowe, Mike Hopkins Score Wins in Oxford Plains Super Late Model Doubleheader
Mike Rowe inherited his 155th career win at Oxford Plains Speedway in the PASS 150 following post-race technical inspection, while Mike Hopkins won the 100-lap Celebration of America 300 qualifier.
Following post-race technical inspection, 74-year-old Mike Rowe has been credited with his 155th career victory at Oxford Plains Speedway.
Rowe crossed the finish line second behind Austin Teras in the Mike Rowe and Sons Trucking PASS 150 at Oxford Plains, but inherited the win following inspection.
"It's nice to get the win, but you know, we don't want to win it that way," said Rowe. "I don't really know what happened in tech. Sometimes that happens."
It is the 24th PASS victory for Rowe, and already his second victory at the Maine facility where he's won seven track championships after taking the Oxford Championship Series season opener. It's been a great start to the 2025 season for the driver often referred to as "The King" at Oxford Plains Speedway.
"All of my crew guys have been doing a phenomenal job for me. Today was a little bit off, but I just babied the car the whole race. I was right there at the end, but it paid off."
Earlier on Sunday, Rowe also mentioned 2025 will be his final season of racing to focus on the next generation of the Rowe racing family. However, he admitted that this is not the first time he's made that promise, and he's not sure he's ready to keep it just yet this time either.
"I've got my grandson, Max, is coming up, and my son Ben is racing. It's almost time for me to step aside and let them do this stuff. I say this is my last year, but I guess I've been saying that for five or six years. We'll see what happens."
Earlier on Sunday, the Oxford Championship Series Super Late Models competed in a 100-lap qualifier for the Celebration of America 300. While that wasn't a PASS points race, many of the same drivers took part in both races, seeking the coveted provisional starting spot for July's marquee race at Oxford Plains.
Mike Hopkins scored the victory in that event, passing Teras and D.J. Shaw on the outside near the halfway mark of the race and pulling away to the win.
“This place has been tough for me," said Hopkins after the win. "I’ve raced here a lot, got a couple of trophies. We won an ACT race here. In the offseason, we struggled a little bit. It was time for a change, regrouped.
“This is the first race in this brand-new Hamke race car. I can’t thank Cody Glick enough, and everybody that made this happen. Most of all, Andrew Hicken from King Competition up in Canada. If anybody’s looking for a race car, he’s the guy.”
Oxford Plains Speedway will be back in action next Saturday, June 14 for Mid-Coast Excavation Night featuring the Oxford Championship Series divisions. The next event for the PASS Super Late Models takes place on Sunday, June 15 at Star Speedway.
