Mason Diaz is set to reunite with Pro Late Model competition for the first time in three years, teaming up with FatHead Racing (FHR) for a pair of upcoming starts—beginning this weekend in the stand-alone CARS Tour Pro Late Model race at Hickory Motor Speedway.
Diaz, a full-time competitor in the CARS Tour Late Model Stock division, brings a wealth of short track experience and national recognition to the FHR camp as he prepares to climb back into a Pro Late Model seat for the first time since 2022.
“It’s been a while since I’ve run a Pro Late Model, but I’m excited to get back behind the wheel with FatHead,” says Diaz. “We’ve got our eyes on the $30,000-to-win race in August, and this weekend at Hickory is the perfect opportunity to get some laps under my belt and start dialing in the car.”
The Hickory event provides an ideal stage for Diaz to shake off the rust and get reacquainted with the feel and rhythm of Pro Late Model racing. Known for his adaptability and strong race craft, the 24-year-old will look to build momentum and develop chemistry with the FatHead Racing team ahead of the major payday on the horizon.
“Mason’s a proven driver with a lot of laps in a Late Model Stock, and we’re looking forward to having him back in a Pro Late with our team,” said FHR owner Jamie Yelton. “He knows how to race smart, give feedback, and elevate the program—and we’re excited to see what we can accomplish together.”
The partnership will serve as both a competitive outing and a tune-up for Diaz and FHR as they target the high-stakes $30,000-to-win Pro Late Model event in August.
For Diaz, returning to his Pro Late Model roots is all about preparation—and a chance to mix it up with some of the best young talent in the country.
“The level of competition in these races is high, and the cars are so different than what I’ve been running every weekend,” Diaz explains. “I just want to get comfortable, give solid feedback, and put the team in a good place to be competitive when the money’s on the line in August.”
Mason Diaz and FatHead Racing will hit the track this weekend at Hickory Motor Speedway, with practice and qualifying scheduled ahead of Saturday night’s feature.
Diaz’ Pro Late Model efforts are proudly supported by The Sign Shop, Prince William Marina, Grafix Unlimited and TSS Services.
