Kyle Crump Overcomes Engine Swap, Wins Masters of the Pros 200

Kyle Crump recovered from a mid-day engine swap and won Wednesday’s Masters of the Pros 200 at Owosso Speedway, keeping his JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour winning streak alive and earning his first Green Jacket.

Crump started 27th in the 28-car field, unable to take time in qualifying due to an engine change following final practice. He also had no cooling system in his No. 131 on a hot night in Michigan.

None of that slowed Crump, as he drove through the stacked field of Late Model standouts for the win.He held off Keelan Harvick on a late restart to seal the deal, securing the $25,000 win.

“I’m a bit lost for words,” said Crump in victory lane. “I didn’t have any A/C unit or anything there. It was just so hot. Man, what about Keelan Harvick? He was giving me everything I had. I had a slip-up a in three, and he was ready there to pounce.

“I cannot thank my guys enough. We thrashed on this thing, however hot it was, it was miserable, and able to get it back together. Stayed smart in the race, made sure not to put myself in bad spots, and we were able to hold them off.”

Crump has now won in his last six starts with the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour. That streak dates back to the 2023 season, and includes three victories in 2025 after going two-for-two in 2024.

Wednesday’s win was anything but a formality. He needed 119 laps to find his way to the lead after starting in the rear of the field due to the engine change. Then, he found himself in a heated battle with a fellow former Redbud 400 winner, Kyle Steckly.

Unfortunately, that battle ended with Steckly spinning into the inside wall on lap 167 after side-to-side contact with Crump.

“I didn’t run the shelf,” said Crump. “I was just running my right sides next to the shelf. He was behind me, he could see where I was running, so I just thought he saw me, and he didn’t see me.

“Unfortunately, with where he hit, you hit at the tire and it’ll snap your wheel. If he hit anywhere else on the car, he’d have been totally fine. It was just a really bad deal.”

The battle was not over with that, as then Crump held off 13-year-old Keelan Harvick for the victory in front of a packed house to see the incredible field of Late Model competitors, which also featured Harvick’s father, Kevin Harvick.

“I cannot thank the fans enough,” said Crump. “I have never seen this place so packed. It was amazing to see and feel all that energy before the race with all the cheers. Thank you so much for coming out. I hope it was a good show.”

As he donned the ceremonial Green Jacket in victory lane, Crump had another pressing question on his mind.

“I’ve got a wedding coming up. I wonder if she’ll let me wear it?”

Young Keelan Harvick held on for a second-place finish, hoping for a longer run at the end of the race to challenge Crump for the victory.

“We weren’t that good on the short runs,” said Harvick. “We just needed a little long run. Great job to our Rackley WAR guys. Kyle Crump did a great job.

“Everybody who put on this event, I can’t thank them enough. Thank you to Tree Top Apple Juice, iRacing, Hunt Brothers Pizza, Realtree, Panini, everybody who comes on board. It wouldn’t be possible without them.”

As for Kevin Harvick, the 2014 NASCAR Cup Series champion was unofficially credited with 18th place. He was in the top five before contact with Dan Leeck sent both cars into the outside wall on lap 189.

“He cleared himself and I was out there,” said Kevin Harvick. “Wrecked us both. I hate it for everyone on the Rackley WAR Hunt Brothers Pizza team. We had a lot of fun. I just really want to thank the racetrack, crowd, CRA for putting on a great race. I had a great time.”

Treyten Lapcevich finished third, followed by Chase Pinsonneault and Austin Hull. Former Masters of the Pros winner Chase Burda finished sixth, with Billy VanMeter, Blake Rowe, Albert Francis and Chris Shannon rounding out the top 10.

The next scheduled event for the JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour is Friday, August 8 at Corrigan Oil Speedway.
