SOUTH BOSTON, V.A. (Sept. 13, 2025) — Kaden Honeycutt took the victory in Saturday's calamity-filled zMAX CARS Tour Late Model stock event, holding off Conner Jones on a green, white, checkered finish in the Autos By Nelson Race Night at South Boston Speedway.
The win was Honeycutt's first in a CARS Tour Late Model Stock event since Ace Speedway in 2022. He came tantalizingly close to snapping that streak in his last outing with the tour at Hickory. However, he was nabbed with a restart violation late in the race, robbing him of the $50,000 prize.
Just days after the loss at Hickory, Honeycutt was released by Niece Motorsports in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, then received the call to take over for the injured Stewart Friesen and continue his Truck Series championship bid. All this to say it’s been a whirlwind for Honeycutt, and the win at South Boston couldn’t have come at a better time.
“I want to thank Toyota and everything they’ve accumulated me with and been there by my side,” said Honeycutt. “Just awesome people that I’ve been able to work with.
"It’s really amazing when you get to work with the people that I get to work with. There’s very few out there and I’m very thankful that I’m one of them that gets to do that with them.”
Honeycutt was able to capitalize on an incident involving Tristan McKee and Mini Tyrrell. The two had a physical battle for the lead in the waning laps of the race that ended when Tyrrell, while on the inside of McKee, made contact with the No. 7 car, sending McKee around. Per the CARS Tour rules, Tyrrell was sent to the rear of the field.
“It’s hard racing,” said Tyrrell “He kind of used me up a couple laps in a row - I tried to get up next to him in his door like he did to me, I drove it in as hard as I can, he drove it in as hard as he could, I hit his left rear and didn’t have enough time to whoa it up.
“You got Matt Piercy in the spotter stand telling my spotter that he’s got seven race cars and he’ll junk our shit. I can’t afford to do that - I’m just not as fortunate as that.”
Tristan McKee declined to comment.
Coming into South Boston, Landen Lewis led Connor Hall by one point in the championship standings. After Lewis was forced to pit with a blistering right rear tire, Hall was in position to gap the No. 29 in the title fight, only to get caught in a massive crash with Parker Eatmon and Doug Barnes Jr, resulting in an 18th place finish for the No. 88.
“So championship going forward, go home, work it with the guys at the shop, get Humpty Dumpty out back together again, make it as good as possible, go out there and win the last three (two) races of the year and wherever the points lie, the points lie," said Hall
As for Lewis, he was able to avoid calamity and rally back for a fourth-place finish
“We got very lucky with a lot of things,” said Lewis “Had a big pile up getting into one, honestly, I closed my eyes there for a second because I thought I was going to be involved in it. The 88 ended up getting in the wreck, we just kind of got lucky in everything tonight.”
Conner Jones came up half a car length short of victory, finishing second, and Carson Loftin rouned out the podium. Landen Lewis extends his championship lead over Connor Hall.
Keelan Harvick dominated the Pro Late Model event, scoring his second consecutive Victory and third of the season.
"Rackley W.A.R , I just wanted to do it for them," Harvick said in victory lane during his interview with FloRacing. "They always bring me a fast car and it's really cool every time I get to bring them a trophy back to the shop. I just can't thank them enough.
"Robert Arch just said to go as fast as I could [the last 10 laps], but I didn't want to spin out because that would be embarrassing. I just pushed it to the limit as hard as I could."
Ben Maier, despite being winless on the season, retained his championship advantage with a second-place finish. Brandon Lopez, running double duty for the first time in his career, finished in third on the night of his Late Model Stock debut.
The zMax CARS Tour will be back in action on October 4 at Tri-County Speedway.
