May will be a busy month for the ASA STARS National Tour. The national pavement super late model series will visit three tracks in two different states as spring blossoms around America. A visit to Wisconsin will be up next for ASA STARS when Madison Int'l Speedway hosts the Joe Shear Classic on Sunday, May 7, 2023.

“We have collectively made an effort to build this event into a great tribute for one of Short Track Racing’s best drivers. Being able to add the ASA National Stars Tour into the mix elevates this marquee event further,” said Gregg McKarns of Madison Int’l Speedway. “As a race fan, getting to see this level of talent at MIS is something I’m really looking forward to.”

The Joe Shear Classic has been a Midwest tradition for 15 years. Minnesota’s Dan Fredrickson won the first race in 2008 and Wisconsin’s Casey Johnson is the defending winner of the race. Nathan Haseleu, Johnny Sauter and Andrew Morrissey are the only multiple winners of the event. Interestingly enough, Sauter has won the race at both Madison and Dells Raceway Park, where the race was held in 2020 due to COVID restrictions.

While Johnson and Sauter, as well as others, are expected to challenge for the victory in their home state, Bubba Pollard is also expected to fend for his second victory in the event. The Georgia driver won the Joe Shear Classic in 2019.

Many of America’s best pavement super late model drivers are expected to converge on Madison Int’l Speedway in Oregon, WI on Sunday, May 7 for the Joe Shear Classic. Tickets for the event are now available to purchase online at misracing.com/tickets.

Casey Roderick won the season opening event for ASA STARS National Tour on Saturday, March 11 at Five Flags Speedway. 36 cars showed up for the first event in Pensacola, FL.

Madison Int’l Speedway’s Joe Shear Classic will make up race two of the 10-race slate of events in six different states for the ASA STARS National Tour. More details regarding the event will be announced soon.

The Joe Shear Classic will be live-streamed on MidwestTour.tv, TRACKTV.com and Racing America. More details will be announced soon. MAVTV will air the event on a tape-delayed basis.
