A busy month of July continues for the ASA Southern Super Series as they get set for their annual summer trip to Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. The Doubleheader weekend for the Super Late Models will cap off a busy month for a series that sat idle in June thanks to weather. The series is fresh off a solid 100-lap showing at the Nashville Fairgrounds over the fourth of July weekend.
“It sure was nice to see our drivers get back on track and have a race at Nashville,” said Five Flags Speedway General Manager Tim Bryant. “I think the morale of Super Late Models in the Southeast has been so low because of all the weather cancellations. We can’t think of any better way to follow up Nashville than with our annual doubleheader at Five Flags.”
Traditionally the Gulf Coast trip has always been two races dating back to the early years of the All Pro Series in the 1980’s and 1990’s. This allows for Super Late Model teams to see the high banks of Five Flags twice in the same weekend.
“We love tradition here in Pensacola and the racers have responded in a positive way about this doubleheader weekend,” added Bryant. “We are looking at opportunities to have two races on the same weekend down the road. We had one planned for North Carolina, but mother nature had other plans. We know many of our competitors will be at Anderson Speedway (IN) next week for the ASA STARS National tour Redbud 400. We can’t wait for them to head south to Pensacola.”
The points battle is super tight as Matt Craig enters the race as the new point leader after posting a solid run at Nashville. Craig has never led the points in the Southern Super Series, but is a multi-time Super Late Model Champion. In addition to the Southern Super Series points the track Blizzard Series will award points to all Super Late Model drivers. The top driver in the Blizzard Series driver will earn a starting spot in the Snowball Derby if they don’t make the race on qualifying time in December.
Entries will be pouring in for the twin 100-lap races from all around the region and country. Full fields are expected in the Southern Super Series both nights.
Racing gets underway with the PepperJack Kennels Twin 100s weekend on Friday, July 21st at 8pm. The Kioti Tractor 100 will be the main event of the night along with the Five Flags Speedway Outlaws and Pure Stocks.
Action continues on Saturday, July 22nd at 8pm as the second leg of the double dip finishes off the weekend. The American Welding Society 100 will be the final race of the weekend for the ASA Southern Super Series. The Modifieds of Mayhem and Crown Stocks will also have feature races on Saturday.
