Barre, VT — Officials have announced today that NASCAR Cup Series star Daniel Suárez will be making his debut at Thunder Road as part of the 44th Vermont Governor’s Cup presented by the Vermont Lottery on Thursday, July 13th. While he’ll be taking on the local Maplewood/Irving Late Model stars on July 13th, Suárez will be taking all the notes he can in preparation for his return to Quarry Hill just one week later as part of the bombastic line-up of Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) stars ready to make their world debut at Thunder Road on July 20th.

Daniel Suárez hails all the way from Monterrey, Mexico and has been competing competitively in the three NASCAR national series since 2015 after multi-year success on the NASCAR Mexico Series circuit. After earning the 2016 NASCAR Xfinity Series championship with Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), Suárez made the jump to the NASCAR Cup Series with JGR before driving for Stewart-Haas Racing. In 2021 Suárez joined the new-found Trackhouse Racing team headed by Justin Marks and has been in the 99-ride ever since.

Just last season, Suárez became the first Mexican-born driver to earn a NASCAR Cup Series win at Sonoma Raceway and rode that momentum to a top-ten points finish in stock car racing’s most elite platform. Most recently, Suárez took the pole position in the NASCAR All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway en-route to a strong top-10 finish at the revived North Carolina oval on Sunday. Now, he faces a new challenge by taking on Thunder Road for the first time behind the wheel of a Dale Shaw-prepared Maplewood/Irving Late Model.

“I am very excited about the Governor’s Cup. I have heard many good things about Thunder Road as well as the event,” said Suárez on Monday. “This will be a new experience for me and I am looking forward to it as well as the SRX the following week. I’m going to spend a lot of time in Vermont that week!”

“We’re very excited to welcome Daniel Suárez to Thunder Road,” said Thunder Road managing partner Cris Michaud. “Daniel is part of a strong youth movement with Trackhouse Racing at our sport's highest levels, so to have him come up to Thunder Road will be a big boost for the track and we know the fans will love it!”

The 44th Vermont Governor’s Cup 150 presented by the Vermont Lottery is set for Thursday, July 13th and will feature the best of the best Maplewood/Irving Late Model stars for their longest point-counting event of the summer season. Along with the growing group of invaders for the iconic race, they’ll all take on NASCAR star Daniel Suárez as he takes on the infamous highbanks for the very first time. The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers and rk Miles Street Stocks will complete the Thursday night showdown.

Thunder Road comes back to life in just five days with the 60th Mekkelsen RV Memorial Day Classic. Opening the points season for the Maplewood/Irving Oil Late Models with their 125-lap Memorial Day Classic, the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series returns with the Granite City 100 for the Tour-type Modifieds to open their 2023 campaign. The Lenny’s Shoe & Apparel Flying Tigers, rk Miles Street Stocks and Burnett Scrap Metal Road Warriors join the line-up for the fan-favorite event on Sunday, May 28th.
