The Bob Finley Memorial for the Reveal the Hammer Outlaw Late Model Series will still take place in 2023, albeit at a different venue than initially planned, and now with an increased purse offering more than $20,000 to win.
In a release on Monday, it was announced the Bob Finley Memorial will take place on September 23, 2023 at Owosso Speedway. The event had originally been scheduled to take place on July 26 at Corrigan Oil Speedway, but rain prevented that attempt.
"It has been a whirlwind of emotions for our family since the rained out event at Corrigan Oil Speedway," said Jeff Finley in the announcement. "The process of trying to figure out a suitable date for our dad's inaugural race this year has been a challenge since we unfortunately did not have a rain date set up and August being a crowded month for Outlaw Late Model Racing. We are super excited to announce we will be moving the Bob Finley Memorial event to Owosso Speedway.
"Owosso Speedway has a very special place in our hearts as well from years past dating back to the late 60s. We went and visited the track recently and we were astounded by the improvements that have been made. Rex Wheeler and Jeff Parish have welcomed us with open arms and we are grateful for that. The payout for this race is unprecedented through these gentlemen as well. This race will be as huge as the legacy our dad left behind and we couldn't be more proud."
Along with the event's relocation, several sponsors have stepped up to increase the payout of the rescheduled event, which will also serve as the season finale for the Reveal the Hammer Outlaw Late Models.
"We are extremely happy to be able to offer a venue to the Finleys after they had exhausted options at Corrigan Oil Speedway," said Owosso Speedway owner Rex Wheeler. "Owosso Speedway will honor the awards that Corrigan had readied, and will honor their lap money pledged by fans devoted to memorializing Bob. We are able to partner with the Finleys and bring the event to honor Bob to our championship race night at the Owosso Nationals for 2023.
"With an already very attractive purse, and sponsorship and pledges from the above businesses we are able to raise the win and all down through the field to make this the highest paying Outlaw race to ever occur at Owosso. It is now $20,067 to win and enhancements through the rest of the field to make this a very special event, additions to the modified purse will happen as well."
Along with the increased pay for the winner, second place now pays $10,067. All starters will receive at least $867 for their efforts.
