The Coldbrook Trailers & Equipment Celebration of America 300 kicked off on Tuesday evening at Oxford Plains Speedway with a pair of 75-lap qualifier races for the PASS Super Late Models. Austin Teras and Brandon Barker took the wins in the qualifiers, and will lead the field to the green flag in Wednesday's main event.
The first qualifier race of the evening belonged entirely to Austin Teras. A feature winner already this season at Oxford Plains Speedway, Teras dominated the opening 75-lap qualifier. Ben Rowe finished second, followed by Brandon Varney, Joey Doiron and Garrett Hall. Hall was disqualified in post-race technical inspection, giving fifth position to D.J. Shaw.
With the win, Teras will start on the pole for Tuesday's Celebration of America 300. While 300 laps is plenty of time around the 3/8-mile Maine facility, Teras is happy to lead the field to the green flag.
"I mean, obviously, the pole's an advantage for the race. You contro lthe race. I think that was pretty good there at the end. We were trying to save some. We'll be one to watch tomorrow, for sure."
In the second qualifier, Brandon Barker jumped out front and led every lap for the victory. Corey Bubar finished second, with Kyle Salemi, Travis Stearns and Mike Rowe.
As part of the unique format for this race, teams have 12 tires to use across both Tuesday and Wednesday as they see fit. Barker hopes he has enough left on the set of tires from his qualifier to stay near the front at the start of Wednesday's 300-lapper.
"Hopefully, we saved enough tire there," said Barker. "I've got to thank Landshark, Kyle, Nicky, Eric, everyone with the DeSouza family. This really turned this deal around. Archie [St. Hilaire] for making it happen, Corvette Parts, Keen Parts, DLM. This is just the start. We've got 300 more tomorrow."
Two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch finished ninth in the second qualifier. With that result, Busch will start 18th in Wednesday's Celebration of America 300.
The Coldbrook Trailers & Equipment Celebration of America 300 is the second race of the Oxford Crown Jewel Triple Crown Series. In May, Joey Doiron won the Memorial Day Clash 200 to kick off this year's Triple Crown Series. The three-race series concludes with the Oxford 250 on August 22-24.
The 300-lap PASS Super Late Model feature headlines Wednesday's racing program for the Celebration of America 300. The New England Supermodified Series and Mad Bombers will also be in action.
Fans can watch the event live on RacingAmerica.TV, with coverage beginning at 6 p.m. ET on Wednesday. Click here to learn more about how to watch the Celebration of America 300 from Oxford Plains Speedway.
