ASA Southern Super Series
Montgomery Hosting Late Model Doubleheader This Saturday
Apr 10, 2024
When the regional touring series head to each race track they always have had to deal with the historical crafty veterans who call that track home. Augie Grill has long been a staple in Super Late Model action across the southeast and in more recent years he’s done the same in Pro Late Models and Modifieds.
With recent success Grill is riding momentum heading into the ASA Southern Super Series event at Montgomery Motor Speedway. The Alabama native calls Montgomery his home track and he hopes to keep the Rumble by the River 125 trophy in the Yellowhammer State.
“It's pretty much my home track these days,” said Grill. , “I always seem to run pretty well there no matter what I'm in. So, I'm just kind of excited to get my Super back out on the track and see what we can do.
Grill has been licking his chops for over a year as the Montgomery race was washed out on two occasions in 2023. It was the first time the track had not hosted a Southern Super Series race in a calendar year.
“We can't change the weather like we'd like, so we just dealt with Mother Nature and here we are, you're fast forward a year later and we're ready to go.”
Grill enters the weekend having rattled off a win at Cordele Motor Speedway two weeks back and he posted a second-place run in the most recent Allen Turner Pro Late Model event at Five Flags Speedway last Friday.
It used to be if you ran good in one, you're going to run good in the other,” said Grill. “Same car, same setup, same everything. But it's gotten so much more technical now. I run the pros more, so I'm going to be more apt to run well in them versus the super. But hopefully this year, things keep clicking along like they are. I'll be able to race a good bit more in the super and maybe get back to where I feel like I need to be.”
Grill has four career wins with the Southern Super Series and he hopes to add more to that total in 2024. It’s not confirmed, but a possibility that Grill could run both cars this weekend. The weekend will feature a doubleheader at Montgomery with the track’s Show Me the Money Pro Late Models.
