The pot just got a little sweeter for Pro Late Model drivers and teams as the annual Allen Turner race in December, the night before the Snowball Derby, got an adjustment ahead of the entry for release.
Come December, the track's $10,000 to win Pro Late Model race will be decided across a 125-lap contest on four tires. For years, the race has been a 100-lap event, but now the track wants to spice up from year’s past.
“With some Driver input towards our effort to make the Snowflake a bit more interesting, we feel the additional 25 laps will encourage a little extra strategy in the race,” said track General Manager Tim Bryant. “The Snowball Derby is triple the distance of a standard Blizzard race, and while we couldn’t add that many laps, we knew that adding 25 would be a challenge for the drivers.”
In addition to the 25-lap increase, the purse has increased for the second straight year. Starting pay for the Snowflake 125 has been boosted to $1,000. The race will still lock in the top 30 on time and take four from the last chance race, two from track provisionals, and have the use of a defending race winner option for provisional if needed.
The entry form for the Allen Turner Snowflake 125 will be released on Friday August 1, and teams will have an opportunity to be in a drawing for a prize package that will make the early entry worthwhile.
Teams will have until September 1 to sign up to be eligible for the bonus.
Tickets for the annual Snowball Derby will go on sale to the general public on August 25th.
