After two runner-up finishes, Gastón Irazú took the top step of the Formula 4 United States Championship (F4 U.S.) podium at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP). With three finishes inside the top three, the Uruguayan had a great weekend for his championship fight, extending his lead from just 37 points entering the CTMP weekend to 66 points heading into the penultimate round.
Notes of Interest:
Gastón Irazú (No. 27 Elia Group / Baly / Canal 4 / Ancap / Champagne Racing Ligier JS F422) brought the field to the green and took the lead as the field raced toward Turn 1. Behind him, Cole Medeiros (No. 77 Firano Motorsports / MLT Motorsports Ligier JS F422) filed into second, while Luca Day (No. 54 Zimperium / Momentum Motorsports Ligier JS F422) pulled beside Caleb Campbell (No. 68 Steele Auto Group / Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) to challenge for third, and Clemente Huerta Raab (No. 17 Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) looked to challenge Zach Fourie (No. 15 Kiwi Motorsport Ligier JS F422) for fifth. Clicking off the opening laps, the field settled into place with Irazú, Medeiros and Campbell all running nose to tail. A full-course yellow came out as Fernando Rivera (No. 16 Crosslink Motorsports Ligier JS F422) spun, regrouping the field and giving them another chance to jockey for position.
As the green waved, Medeiros stayed close to Irazú’s gearbox, but with a little wiggle going into Turn 9, Irazú was able to pull away. Behind them, Fourie was starting to look for a way around Campbell, but patience was key in the fight, as it took five laps for Fourie to find the right opportunity to overtake his Kiwi Motorsport teammate. Steadily racing toward the checkered flag, it was Irazú, followed by Medeiros, Fourie, Campbell and Huerta Raab to round out the top five.

We got the win and good points for the championship, so it’s really great. Thank you to my team, my sponsors, my family and all the people who came here to support me. Also, thank you to my girlfriend and all the people who are always with me.”
