LAKE VIEW, SC (April 30) – Hope Mills, NC’s Shaun Harrell returned to Lake View Motor Speedway to take home $3,000 in scoring a dominating Late Model win Saturday night.
After starting on the pole, Harrell quickly jumped out to the lead over Christian Thomas. Harrell was pulling away, before getting held up by the lapped car of Brad Fowler on lap 11, allowing Thomas to close in before Fowler stalled on the frontstretch. On the restart, Harrell opened up a quick 10 car length advantage over Thomas, until the caution waved with seven laps to go for a spin by Woody Cromartie in turn four. On the restart, Thomas and Brian Strickland made slight contact, with Strickland spinning and collecting Dustin Mitchell and Johnny Pridgen. Harrell led every lap to take the win over Thomas, Blake Sanderson, Pridgen, and Strickland. Rounding out the top 10 were Jeffrey Johnson, Daniel Tucker, Clint Hodges, Cromartie, and Fowler.
The Stock V8s ran a 22-lap race in memory of longtime car owner Gerald Best with Rocky Gasque coming out on top for his third straight win. Outside pole sitter Ed Mason spun on the opening lap in turn four to bring out the first caution of the night. Jaden Locklear spun in turn two to bring out another caution with nine laps to go while running second. Following Gasque at the finish were Jason Floyd, Locklear, Blaise Bryant, and Ashley Best, who was racing in honor of her father.
Sumter, SC’s Dalton Hodge backed up a strong effort in last weekend’s Beach Bash to record his first SCDRA Morrisonbuilt Performance Sport Compact win of the season. The race got off to a rocky start when James Greer and Tony Todd took a long slide down the frontstretch on lap one. Behind Hodge at the finish line were Trent Herring, Kyle Jenks, Jason Brown, and Andrew Register.
The Bell & Bell Vintage cars returned with Jeremy Cumbee capturing the Pro Modified win, while Wes Horrell won in Modifieds, Ryan Doyle in Sportsman, Pete Corey in Seniors, and Korey Nikolov in 6-Cylinders.
Nathan Cumbee joined his dad as a winner, taking the victory in the Jr. Mini Sprints. And, Ashley Best ended an emotional night in victory lane with the win in the Powder Puff division.
