The first night of the Second Annual South of the Border Showdown came down to a family feud. With a late-race pass, Andrew Buff took the victory over brother Justin to claim the 25-lap DIRTcar Sportsman feature on Thursday night.

Andrew Buff, who also won on the second and final night of the inaugural South of the Border Showdown one year ago, surged past Justin Buff on lap 20.

"I don't even know what to say," said Andrew Buff in victory lane. "Getting up there and racing with my brother for the win. My other brother got in a tangle there, but wow. That was awesome."

The Lake View racing surface proved to be tacky and racy on opening night, and Andrew Buff's No. 92 was dialed in to take advantage of the conditions.

"It's definitely a little different. I was surprised how well we worked through there. We could go anywhere. Inside, outside, it didn't matter."

Justin Buff finished second, continuing a trend for both Buff brothers. Andrew and Justin were both on the podium for both nights of last year's Showdown, and they finished 1-2 to start this year's edition.

"I had a really good car, but definitely not as good as him," said Justin Buff. "We started losing some grip at the end, but it was a good night."

Justin Buff noted some different characteristics to the track at Lake View from one year ago.

"It might be a tire game. The track definitely widened out. It was racy, so that was good. I've just got to find some more grip and maybe protest my brother," joked Buff.

David Boisclair completed the podium in his first trip to Lake View. Both Andrew Buff and Boisclair had long hauls through the field following the top-12 redraw to set the first six rows of the starting lineup, with Boisclair drawing the dreaded 12th spot.

"The track's absolutely awesome. It was very smooth, very fun to race on. It was a great facility. For the most part, it was a lot of clean racing. Hopefully, next time, we'll have a little better starting position.

"It kills morale a little bit, but it's the luck of the draw. As the other racers say, anyone can win from the point."

Two nights of racing remain on the schedule at Lake View Motor Speedway in the South of the Border Showdown, including a 25-lap Sportsman Modified feature on Friday night and a 50-lap feature on Saturday evening.

Fans unable to attend the event will be able to watch live on Racing America.
